Registration is open for next year.  The application forms need to be completed each year by all students.  They are available in the office or can be down loaded from the LHS website www.lutheranhighschool.net.  The scholarship students need only send in the completed form.

TRACK
Track is in its final weeks and it has been a great season. Our next track meet will be this Thursday at Southeastern University where we will compete against 15 other schools. We will continue to have practice each day after school until 4:30 until April 21st. Our regional meet will be April 22nd at Walker High School and will be our chance for the Varsity track members to compete for State.

ACT – SATURDAY, APRIL 13TH
LHS will be a testing site this Saturday, April 13th for the ACT.  Doors will open at 7:45 a.m.  All test takers are to enter through the main entrance (the front doors off 17th Street).  Test takers must bring their admission ticket and a photo I.D.  Failure to bring these items will result in the test taker being denied admission.  Test takers should also bring number two pencils and an approved calculator (see www.act.org).  Test takers are also encouraged to dress in layers so that they can be comfortable throughout the test.  Testing will start shortly after 8:00 a.m.  Those taking the test without writing should finish by noon and those taking the writing portion should finish by 12:30 p.m.

STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
Student Council Week is set for April 15-19. This is a week where we celebrate LHS and its students through dress-down days and other activities. The dress-down days are meant to promote fun and creativity.. Here are the themes for each day:

Monday: Pajama Day (wear pajamas to school)
Tuesday: Dress Up Day (dress up in your best clothes)
Wednesday: Character Day (dress as a popular character from TV/music/movies/books)
Thursday: 80’s Day (wear bright colors, big hair, leg warmers, and flashy style)
Friday: School/Class Spirit Day (wear jeans, and school colors, or make your own shirt)

In general clothing must be appropriate to wear to school. This means that shorts should be an appropriate length, tops should be modest (with no excessive skin showing - no midriffs are allowed), jeans should not be ripped, frayed or skin tight, and there should not be any drug or alcohol references. Tights must have something over them if worn. All shoes must be closed-toed and heels no more than 1 inch (on dress up day only). TANK TOPS AND FLIP FLOPS ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED!

If any clothing or shoes are considered inappropriate, students will be asked to change into more appropriate clothing or their school uniform. Please keep these rules in mind as you drop your children off at school this week.

Faculty/Student Event:

This year's annual Faculty/Student Event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16th.  Also, incorporated into this year's event will be some class competitions.  The schedule is as follows:

Basketball Games - (the first game will begin at 5:00 p.m.)
Game 1 - Freshmen vs. Sophomores
Game 2 - Juniors vs. Seniors
Game 3 - Game 1 vs. Game 2 Winners (Class Championship)
Game 4 - Class Champion vs. Faculty

The basketball games will be shortened to two five-minute halves.  In between each game we will have individual class competitions - under-the-basket contest, dribble contest and shot contest!  Concessions will be sold!

Please encourage your child to participate in this fun-filled night!  We would also love to have parents in the stands!

Crawfish Boil:
We will once again be having a crawfish boil to conclude Student Council Week.  This will be the only lunch offered on Friday, April 19th.  If your child does not want crawfish he or she should bring a sack lunch that can be eaten outdoors.  The classes will be selling various drinks and desserts but your child will not have access to the vending machines or microwaves.

This year we are looking forward to enjoying crawfish from Bobby’s Seafood. This tasty treat will cost each student $10 for 3 pounds of crawfish and the fixings.  Students need to pay Mr. Schalm by Wednesday, April 17th!  On Friday students should bring their own drink or enough money to purchase a drink from one of the classes (usually $1 - $2 each).

SENIOR BABY PHOTOS
The end of the year is fast approaching and Senior Chapel will be here before we know it.  It is an LHS tradition to compile a senior video that is first shown during Senior Chapel and then shown again as people are arriving for graduation.  This video includes photos from your child's years at LHS but it is also fun to include photos from your senior's childhood.  We ask that each senior bring in three (3) photos for the video.  In the past the photos have typically been baby photos through early elementary.  If you have your child's photos saved digitally, please e-mail them to Ms. Loughmiller at mloughmiller@lutheranhighschool.net.  If you have hard copies only, we will scan them and return the prints to you the day of Senior Chapel.  Please e-mail Ms. Loughmiller if you have any questions.  We would like to have all photos turned in by Tuesday, April 30th.

NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS DAY – A HUGE SUCCESS!
Last Friday, March 8th LHS again hosted our New Orleans area National Lutheran Schools Event.  This is the second year that LHS has been the site for this event.  Last year 4th through 8th graders attended but this year the request was made for us to host Kindergarten through 8th grade and we obliged.  More than 700 students, teachers and chaperones attended from Atonement Lutheran (Metairie), Concordia Lutheran (Marrero), Faith Lutheran (Harahan), St. John Lutheran (New Orleans) and St. Paul Lutheran (New Orleans).  Mother Nature cooperated and everyone enjoyed celebrating Lutheran Education.  We would like to extend a special thanks to the Lutheran High North choir from Houston for providing our chapel music, First English Lutheran Church and Johnny Bright Playground for allowing us to use their facilities.  Activities included - a puppet show, face painting, a petting zoo, Instagator (alligators), flip books, creating Easter cards, making handprint banners, kickball, open gym and more!  It was an exciting day and would not have been possible without the help provided by our LHS students.  They served as tour guides and helped oversee various stations.  Ms. Rost has received several e-mails and cards from our area elementary schools thanking us for hosting such a great event and commenting on how helpful the LHS students were in making the day run smoothly!
