PICTURE DAY
On Thursday, September 13, we will have yearbook and ID pictures taken.  The students will wear their uniforms and they will be taken in the morning so have your child to school on time.  If you would like to order a packet we will be sending home the order form today. Ken Redler of Ken Redler Photography will be taking the pictures. Checks should be made out to Ken Redler Photography.
 
HURRICANE EVACUATION INFORMATION
In order to keep in contact with our school families if an evacuation order is given or you choose to leave the city for a Hurricane, we are giving you this information to be placed in your evacuation kit.
When you arrive at your safe destination, please call Ms. Loughmiller (281) 799-9883 or Martin Insurance (888) 415-2006and leave your name and a phone number where you can be reached.  It is very important that we hear from each family.

If a computer is available you may email us on our website: lutheranhighschool.net.  Please send us your name and a contact phone number for your family.  On the website we will be posting the latest information concerning the re-opening of school.

We are truly concerned about the safety of our families and wish to keep in contact so we can restart the educational process as soon as possible.  Thank you for your cooperation.

CAMP RESTORE
If you are someone you know is in need of some minor repairs to their home from damage caused by Hurricane Isaac, you can contact Camp Restore (a Lutheran emergency response team) at 1-888-248-2636.  Volunteers are arriving daily and ready to begin to help us. 

HOMECOMING
September 25th will be the volleyball homecoming game against First Baptist of Slidell.  The homecoming court and their parents will be presented at the game.  The homecoming dance will be held on September 29th at 5 Happiness Restaurant on Carrollton Ave.

CALENDAR CHANGES
Please make note of changes made to the 1st quarter of the school year:
1st quarter exams – Thursday, October 11th and Friday, October 12th
We will not be closed on Friday, October 12th for Records Day

VOLLEYBALL UPDATE – The LHS volleyball team kicked off their season last week.  Their first opponent was Crescent City.  LHS had a lead in the second game but ended up losing the match 0 - 3.  On Friday and Saturday the team participated in the Grace King Tournament.  The team lost Friday to Thomas Jefferson 0 - 2 but rallied on Saturday against some large public school teams.  The first opponent of the day was Grace King.  The team won a hard fought second game 28 - 26 but couldn't hold on in the third and lost the match 1 - 2.  The day ended against a good Edna Karr team that won LHS' pool.  The team had some great rallies, blocks and digs but lost 0 - 2.  Team members this year are:  senior Kate Todd, juniors Emily Cassanova, Misty Celestin, Alexa Heltz, Miccah Izaguirre, Lindsey Shaffer, Kaelin Waterman and sophomore Gracian Zenon.  Managers are Zayda Carcamo (scorebook) and Hope Alfano (scoreboard).  This weeks schedule is as follows:
  • Thursday, September 13th @ First Baptist (Slidell) - 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, September 14th @ Ecole Tournament - 4:00 p.m. vs. St. Martin's and 6:00 p.m. vs. Helen Cox
  • Saturday, September 15th @ Ecole Tournament - 10:00 a.m. vs. Patrick Taylor, Noon vs. Ridgewood

 VOLLEYBALL REMINDER – Girls wanting to practice with the team who are not LHSAA eligible must have a physical prior to joining practice.  Please see Coach Loughmiller to pick up the necessary form.

FACULTY INSTALLATION – A special thanks to St. John Lutheran Church for hosting the LHS faculty installation this past Sunday.  Each year the faculty and staff of Lutheran High are installed for another year of school ministry.  Following the service the faculty enjoyed coffee hour with the members of St. John.
 
ACT CHANGES – ACT has implemented a number of changes for the 2012-2013 testing year in an attempt to further prevent cheating.  Highlighted below are the major changes that test takers need to be aware of:
  • all test takers must now present a photo idea to be admitted (students will no longer be admitted based on teacher recognition)
  • all test takers must now present their admission ticket to be admitted
  • beginning with the October test date, all test takers must upload a photo as part of their registration process (this photo will print on the test taker’s admission ticket and on the test center’s roster)
  • all standby test takers must now register online prior to the test date (NO walk-ins will be allowed on the day of the test)

PTL BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT (Rescheduled) – Please join us this Wednesday, September 12th at 6:30 p.m. for the PTL Back-to-School Night.  This will be the first of four quarterly PTL meetings and it will be a great opportunity to meet fellow parents and learn how you can get involved.   Parent volunteers are needed to assist with work days, rummage sales, athletic concessions, the Gryphon Gala and more.  You will also have the chance to follow your child's daily schedule and hear what teachers expect from your child in order for him/her to be successful at LHS. Edline codes and instructions on how to use will also be made available this night.
 SENIOR/FRESHMAN WEEK (Rescheduled) – Let the fun begin!  This week the seniors will be welcoming the freshmen to LHS as part of a longstanding LHS tradition.  Students have assigned to teams and will participate in team activities throughout the week.  Following is the schedule of events:
Tuesday (Sept. 11th):         Banana Split/Ice Cream Sundae Party (end of 8th period) –
Get to Know Your Team (wear school uniform)
 
Wednesday (                          Wednesday Sept. 12th):  Minute-to-Win-It Team Challenge Day – Team Color Day –
 Dress down in a t-shirt of your team’s color, jeans, and tennis shoes (the challenges will occur during 8th period)
 
Thursday (Sept. 13th):       Breakfast @ LHS 7:00 a.m. (in the lunch room) (wear school uniform)
                                               
Friday (Sept. 14th):             Freshman/Senior Picnic @ Johnny Bright Playground  (located behind LHS – dismissed after 5th period) – Dress down in a red, black, white or gray t-shirt,jeans, and tennis shoes (students may bring shorts to change into for the picnic)
